She hasn’t been able to manage her mother’s growing issues with anxiety. And now she’s been rejected from an art show because her work “has no heart.” So when she gets another opportunity to show her paintings, Abby isn’t going to take any chances.

Which is where the list comes in.

Abby gives herself one month to do ten things, ranging from face a fear (#3) to learn a stranger’s story (#5) to fall in love (#8). She knows that if she can complete the list, she’ll become the kind of artist she’s always dreamed of being.

But as the deadline approaches, Abby realizes that getting through the list isn’t as straightforward as it seems . . . and that maybe—just maybe—she can’t change her art if she isn’t first willing to change herself.

The Young Queens (Three Dark Crowns Novella) by Kendare Blake

December 26

In this must-read prequel to Kendare Blake’s New York Times bestselling Three Dark Crowns, the queens’ origin story is revealed. It’s a pre-crown lowdown of Fennbirn’s ruling class.

Mirabella, Arsinoe, and Katharine weren’t always scheming to murder each other. They weren’t always surrounded by rival foster families, each swearing to have their best interests at heart. And they weren’t always afraid of being unexpectedly attacked—by one of their own sisters, no less—in a way that could cost them their last breath.

They used to be together. Just three sisters. Alone in a glen.

This is the story of the three queens—after they were born, before they were separated, during the time when they all lived together, loved each other, and protected each other. It’s also the story of the day they were torn apart, and the several years that follow.

From birth to eleven years old, this is a rare glimpse of the queens’ lives…before they were at stake.

No Regrets: A Lexi Carmichael Mystery Book 10 by Julie Moffett

January 8

Geek girl Lexi Carmichael has tackled her share of formidable tasks, but nothing quite as daunting as serving as maid of honor at her best friend’s wedding

When I agreed to stand by my best friend, Basia, on her big day, I had no idea what I was in for. Bouquets and unflattering evening wear I can handle. But between disgruntled dates, a beach venue and suspicious packages, what else can go wrong? Oh, right—my parents don’t know I’ve moved in with Slash. Oops?

Thankfully, I’ve got everything semi under control, at least as far as Basia and Xavier know. They can leave for their honeymoon happy, knowing Elvis, Slash and I will keep things safe at home.

Meanwhile, Elvis and Xavier’s boss at ComQuest has asked X-Corp—well, me—to take a quick trip to retrieve a sensitive company package from the British Virgin Islands. No hacking involved. Just show up, accept the package and bring it home safely. A cushy assignment, and a safe one. Right?

Wrong. Things start to unravel the minute I set foot on the boat to the island. Before I know it, I’m up to my neck in thugs, sand and trouble. I’m going to have to work fast to stop the bad guys before the sun sets for good on this unexpected beach vacation…

Goldie does her best to solve a murder, come into her powers, and stop that wombat from terrorising the ladies of the retirement village, all the while fighting her attraction for Max Grayson, the infuriatingly gorgeous detective.

Fatal Masquerade

Blog Tour: Fatal Masquerade (A Lady Alkmene Mysteries) By Vivian Conroy

‘How did you know it was me, anyways, when I came up to you?’

Jake shrugged. ‘I’m used to committing people’s posture, movements, total appearance to memory. When I’m stalking someone in the city, I have to recognize him or her in a crowd. Besides, your eyes are quite memorable. I’d recognize them anywhere.’Fatal Masquerade Chapter 3

Synopsis

Lady Alkmene and Jake Dubois are back in a gripping new adventure facing dangerous opponents at a masked ball in the countryside.

Masked danger…
Lady Alkmene Callender has always loved grand parties, but when she receives an invitation to a masked ball thrown by Franklin Hargrove – oil magnate, aviation enthusiast and father of her best friend, Denise – she’s never seen such luxury. The estate is lit up with Chinese lanterns in the gardens, boats operated by footmen float across the pond and the guest list features the distinguished, rich and powerful!
But below the glamour, evil is lurking. When a dead body is discovered, it forces Lady Alkmene to throw off her mask and attempt to find the true killer before Denise’s family are accused. If only her partner, Jake Dubois, weren’t hiding something from her…
This case might just be more dangerous than either of them could have imagined.

Hello Everyone!

Welcome, if you’re new here. I was so excited when Vivian asked me to be apart of the blog tour! If you follow me on Facebook you know that I’m absolutely OBSESSED with this series. When Book one A Proposal to Die For popped up in my bookbub subscription I was intrigued, but I didn’t buy it right away (I was at the end of my book budget). For months, I kept coming back to it so finally I bought it and feel in LOVE. Jake Dubois quickly became one of my favorite book boyfriends. You’ll love this reporter with his quick thinking and how he teases Alkmene about her status. Alkmene has a sharp-tongue and likes to sleuth. Together with her status and his resources they are the perfect team.

This is the fourth book in the series and I have to say it’s the BEST! I waited up all night for this book to finally appear in my kindle and it didn’t disappoint. Before I even received the book I was wondering, would we finally get back to the blackmail letter we learned of in the first book? You’ll have to read it to find out. The writing and descriptions in this book were flawless. To Jake mysteriously appearing at the masked ball, to the interesting characters at dinner, the mystery man Denise is seeing, and a murder. Its mystery at its best! The red herrings threw me for a while, but when you finally discover the murderer you learn so much more then we bargained for. Could we finally discover where these mysterious blackmail letters are coming from?

Fatal Masquerade has so many twists and turns its sure to keep you on your toes. This is also the first book in the series to have a cliffhanger and I cannot wait for more! This book was truly amazing. I cannot wait to see what happens in Lady Alkmene and Jake’s next adventure.
I give this book 5 stars.
Start this series today! It will not disappoint.

Book Boyfriend of the Month

It’s that time of the month again!

It’s time to share who your favorite Book Boyfriend of the month!

This month I have to say my book boyfriend is Matthew Glass.

His Fingers touched mine. Tingling warmth washed up my arm. I pulled away and would have walked off if he hadn’t spoken.

“Stay.”

The word was as soft as a breath. No one but me could have heard it. The plea in his eyes pinched my heart and had me wondering if he was referring to staying for a drink or staying at his house.

“I can’t.”

I just finished reading The Magician’s Dairy and OMG! this was the best book yet! And the ending between Matt and India! Oh I can’t wait to see what happens between them next. Matt Glass is a rough and tough American who has traveled over to England with one thought in mind. To find Chronos a watchmaker magician to fix his magical watch. Instead he finds India who’s father just passed and has been kicked out of her home by her now ex-fiancée. Matt is not like most men who shy away from the strong minded and quick tongue of India Steele. And more then that she may be the key to fixes his watch and my just Steele his heart. At puberty, they’d called it. I, Naz Beauchene, was the first, official family dud.

Born into a long line of illustrious shifters of the feline variety, my family fully expected me to blossom into a panther or maybe even a cherished lioness. They got neither. Not even one spark of magic stirred my blood.

But then one day, a handsome Nether Reach Keeper crashed through the door where I worked as an imp trainer…and everything changed.

All The Dirty Parts

August 29

This sounds very interesting and I’m looking forward to checking it out!

Cole is a boy in high school. He runs cross country, he sketches, he jokes around with friends. But none of this quite matters next to the allure of sex. “Let me put it this way,” he says. “Draw a number line, with zero is you never think about sex and ten is, it’s all you think about, and while you are drawing the line, I am thinking about sex.”

Cole fantasizes about whomever he’s looking at. He consumes and shares pornography. And he sleeps with a lot of girls, which is beginning to earn him a not-quite-savory reputation around school. This leaves him adrift with only his best friend for company, and then something startling starts to happen between them that might be what he’s been after all this time-and then he meets Grisaille.

All The Dirty Parts is an unblinking take on teenage desire in a culture of unrelenting explicitness and shunted communication, where sex feels like love, but no one knows what love feels like. With short chapters in the style of Jenny Offill or Mary Robison, Daniel Handler gives us a tender, brutal, funny, intoxicating portrait of an age when the lens of sex tilts the world. “There are love stories galore,” Cole tells us, “This isn’t that. The story I’m typing is all the dirty parts.”

Book Boyfriend of the Month

It’s the first Wednesday of the month! You know what that means!!!

It’s time to share who your favorite Book Boyfriend of the month!

This month I have to say my book boyfriend is Jake Dubois.

“She turned her head to look at Jake. He had pulled out the Handkerchief she had returned to him and held it to his nose with an elated expression. Then he looked full at her, eyes ablaze with laughter. ‘My handkerchief never had this nice little stitched edge, my lady. Whatever you did with the stained one, this one is brand new.’ “

He is a investigative journalist from the 1920’s and he makes me swoon! He can even cook. Though sometimes I wish he would just get over Alkmene’s title already. It gets annoying but every character needs flaws. I like how Jake treats Alkmene more then just a lady. he takes her thoughts and ideas and listens to her. Though he is quick to point out her mistakes and flaws, like not knowing how to do laundry. I think they are so cute together.

Check the book out today and gush over it with me because if you can’t tell I’m obsessing over this series! To the point where frankly I’m starting to Bear Ass (embarrass) myself.

How to Date a Douchebag: The Learning Hours

September 26

I have read the first book of this series and really enjoyed it. It’s fun easy read. I recommend reading it after reading a very intense series and you just need something to make you feel good and give you a few laughs. Book 2 is in my library waiting for me to give it a read and now that this one is coming out I’ll have to start reading it sooner!

He’s not a douchebag; but that doesn’t stop his friends from turning him into one.

MY FRIENDS WANT ME TO GET LAID.

So much so that they plastered my ugly mug all over campus, in bold printed letters:

Are you the lucky lady who’s going to break our roommate’s cherry?
Him: socially awkward man with average-sized penis looking for willing sexual partner. You: must have a pulse. He will reciprakate with oral. Text him at: 555-254-5551

The morons can’t even spell. And the texts I’ve been receiving are what wet dreams are made of. But I’m not like these douchebags, no matter how hard they try to turn me into one.

THIS ISN’T THE KIND OF ATTENTION I WANT.

One text stands out from hundreds. One number I can’t bring myself to block. She seems different. Hotter, even in black and white.

However, after seeing her in person, I know she’s not the girl for me. But my friends won’t let up–they just don’t get it. Douchebags or not, there’s one thing they’ll never understand: GIRLS DON’T WANT ME.

Especially her.

The Rules of Magic

October 10

OMG! The prequel to Practical Magic! What! can’t wait to read!

Find your magic.

For the Owens family, love is a curse that began in 1620, when Maria Owens was charged with witchery for loving the wrong man.

Hundreds of years later, in New York City at the cusp of the sixties, when the whole world is about to change, Susanna Owens knows that her three children are dangerously unique. Difficult Franny, with skin as pale as milk and blood red hair, shy and beautiful Jet, who can read other people’s thoughts, and charismatic Vincent, who began looking for trouble on the day he could walk.

From the start Susanna sets down rules for her children: No walking in the moonlight, no red shoes, no wearing black, no cats, no crows, no candles, no books about magic. And most importantly, never, ever, fall in love. But when her children visit their Aunt Isabelle, in the small Massachusetts town where the Owens family has been blamed for everything that has ever gone wrong, they uncover family secrets and begin to understand the truth of who they are. Back in New York City each begins a risky journey as they try to escape the family curse.

The Owens children cannot escape love even if they try, just as they cannot escape the pains of the human heart. The two beautiful sisters will grow up to be the revered, and sometimes feared, aunts in Practical Magic, while Vincent, their beloved brother, will leave an unexpected legacy. Thrilling and exquisite, real and fantastical, The Rules of Magic is a story about the power of love reminding us that the only remedy for being human is to be true to yourself.

Last night and this morning I read The Semester of Our Discontent. and I really did like the book. I loved the mystery and how there was a discovery of the secret society “The Blair Rose”. At the end of the book, she and a co worker kiss and though it was obvious she was going to make him the love interested there wasn’t any chemistry and when they kissed it seems very awkward! I almost wish she wouldn’t have had a love interested at all. The mystery was wonderful and I loved how she brought so much lit into the story. I almost felt like the romance in the book was an afterthought and she just added it in there. It didn’t flow with the book. and I was a little disappointed when they kissed. There wasn’t any detail about how it made her felt at all. I almost wished they would have hugged because that would have been perfect. it would have be friendly and then she could have expanded the romance in the next book. But because of this I almost don’t want to read the next book because it was just weird.

I almost don’t know where to go from here. Also I wish she would have went into more detail while describing the characters. I mean I was able to fill in the blanks but I wanted more! I also would have loved more of the Detective Archer. He was an active character in solving the case I wish we could have heard more about him.

Now, I did love how she brought attention to the women writers of the past. I loved it and have even added some books to my never ending reading list. I also loved how the female characters were all very string and independent. I most defiantly passes the Bechdel test.

I give this book 3 stars! I did enjoy the mystery and will probably read the next book later on. I just wish there wasn’t any romance just yet.

My Book List

So I know I’m horrible about getting my blog update and leaving reviews for you guys. Between raising my two kids and working on my own writing my blog has taken a back seat. I haven’t even been reading as much as I would like too. But I am still reading so I thought I would take this time to share a couple of my favorite books I have read since I’ve had Landon back in December.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell.

 5 Stars

OMG! I really enjoyed this book! it has been on my book list for awhile and my mother-in-law bought it for me for Christmas. It was a page turner and I had to close the book a few times because I got embarrassed for Cath many many times. I could even relate to her a little about the eating at school and not knowing if you’re doing something wrong. I always hate when I’m not sure how things work and there’s no one there to explain things to me. I really dislike Cath and Wern’s mother. And at a couple points wanted to hit Wern, Cath’s twin sister, because she was being such a B****.  I LOVE Levi! He is so good for Cath and he cracks me up. And I love how he embraces her weird fangirl-ness. My husband doesn’t get me just nods and goes back to whatever he’s doing!

Nearly Departed in Deadwood (Deadwood Humorous Mystery Book 1) by Ann Charles

 5 Stars

If you need a new paranormal mystery series in your life look no further. Violet cracks me up and this book is full of pretty big and crazy characters that will keep you on your toes. Such as her twin 9 year olds. Her daughter Addy who is always bring home animals and her son Layne likes to dig up her aunts backyard finding bones of animals and putting them back together. They go through a lot of glue. And then there’s the strange, mysterious but handsome Doc who is new to town and looking for a house, she also has no clue what he does for a living or why he gets “allergic” reactions while showing some houses. This series will crack you up and have you going back to Amazon to buy the rest of the series FAST! The books only took my one or two days each and I can’t get enough!

*** There is some hot action in this book!!!!

I hope you check these books out they really are great! And I’ll try to get on more but I’m trying really hard to finish my own book. I want to get it out by the end of this year. It’s a different series than the one I’ve been working one because that series I’m creating multiple worlds and it’s going to take a few years before I have all the kinks worked out. This Trilogy I’m working on won’t take that long. I hope to show you a little of my writing soon!

Never Kiss a Man in a Christmas Sweater

Never Kiss a Man in a Christmas Sweater by Debbie Johnson

“Get in,” he said, scooting over to one side of the bed, and giving her hand a tug. “There’s plenty of room.” She tried to break free, but he held on to her hand, pulling her closer until she was slammed right up against the edge of the bed.

“What?! No! Don’t be daft!” she said, her voice shrill, eyes rolling slightly like a panicked horse.

“Get in! I think you need a hug, and I happen to have a black belt in hugging. Don’t worry – your virtue’s safe with me, I don’t really think I’m up to anything more.” – Chapter 13.

never-kiss-a-man

Maggie O’Donnell is a single mom of a wonderful grown lady named Ellen. Ellen and her father (Paddy) fill her life with joy. Little does she know for the first time she may be spending Christmas alone. Lucky for her the week before she crashed, literally, into handsome Marco Cavelli. Now, thanks to a meddling Sister-in-Law Maggie is now stuck taking care of this man in her own home. But hw bad can it be to have a handsome man in your house. Well when you haven’t been close to a man in many, many years it can be quite difficult. The situations Maggie and Marco get into will have you cringing, laughing, blushing, and sighing. Basically ALL the feels! But Maggie has a secret no one knows and she might just let it get in between her and Marco. Will they work to overcome it or will they let it tear them apart?

I so enjoyed reading this book. I actually read it last year after Christmas and have been DYING to write a review about it. But who wants to read a Christmas book in summer? So I’ve been waiting for the perfect time to share it with you All. I have to say one of my favorite parts is in the second chapter when Maggie and her daughter Ellen both happen to been checking out the Hot Papa at the park (AKA Marco who turns out to just be playing with his nephew.) You can really see how close they are to each other and how they love to tease one another. They kind of remind me about the Gilmore Girls and their relationship.

I really love Marco’s family and you will too! They are nosy and meddlesome and if you read Cold feet at Christmas you can get even more of them. Plus Marco the very sexy 6’5 man has a TWIN brother! WHAT? Yes! There’s two of them! Feel free to swoon, I know I did! I really love how Maggie and Marco start to fall for each other. This is really a sweet and caring read. and I’m sure you all will enjoy this Christmas chick lit book!

I give this book 5 Stars that can go right to the top of the Christmas Tree.

Please leave me comment about your favorite Christmas read!
